Georgia Department of Transportation

The State Highway Department was created on August 16, 1916 by an act of the Legislature. The Department of Transportation (GDOT)was created in 1972 by former Governor Jimmy Carter.

The Georgia Department of Transportation consist of approximately 6,000 employees under the leadership of Commissioner Harold Linnenkohl.
